Buck Rogers in the 25th Century:
The Complete Epic Series
DVD For Sale.

With its campy combination of lightweight adventure and Spandex disco chic, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century is a nostalgic throwback to post-Star Wars opportunism. Series co-creator Glen A. Larson was incapable of originality, and former soap star Gil Gerard (in the title role) was a bland incarnation of the comic-strip hero, so the much-anticipated series premiered on September 20, 1979, with serious disadvantages. Although the two-hour pilot "Awakening" had tested successfully as a theatrical release, Gerard and the show's producers could never agree on a stable tone for the series, which presents Capt. William "Buck" Rogers as a jovial space cowboy who is accidentally time-warped from 1987 to 2491. Earth is engaged in interplanetary war following a global holocaust, and Buck's piloting skills make him an ideal starfighter recruit for the Earth Defense Directorate, where his closest colleagues are Dr. Huer (Tim O'Connor), squadron leader Col. Wilma Deering (former model Erin Gray, looking oh-so-foxy), the wisecracking robot Twiki (voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc), and a portable computer-brain named Dr. Theopolis, who's carried by Twiki like oversized bling-bling. The series struggled through an awkward first season, with routine plots elevated by decent special effects and noteworthy guest stars including Jamie Lee Curtis, ill-fated Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten (appearing, with her voice dubbed over, less than a year before her tragic murder), Batman alumnus Julie Newmar, Buster Crabbe (veteran of vintage Buck Rogers movie serials), and several others in a show that favored vamps and vixens over credible science fiction. A full-scale overhaul resulted in a disastrous second season, but devoted fans still gravitate to Hawk (Thom Christopher), the charismatic alien "birdman" who was introduced with new characters and a new, space-faring search for lost tribes from Earth (with echoes of Larson's own Battlestar Galactica). Behind-the-scenes squabbles continued, and by mid-season of 1981, NBC pulled the plug on a breezy, still-engaging series that suffered from uneasy chemistry and never realized its full potential. Existing somewhere between Galactica and Lost in Space in the TV sci-fi food chain, this Buck--with a dearth of DVD extras--now functions as a cheesy stroll down memory lane.

Contest News: Wonder Woman's Costume Redesign

The Comic Book Listings Blog:

Contest News:

Wonder Woman's
Costume Redesign Contest

Super Hero of the Month, and Girls Read Comics, Team-Up to bring you a long over due contest to redesign Wonder Woman's Costume.

I contend, that the Original Full Bodied Wonder (Bathing) Suit (pictured above), is too good to be improved upon. (You can read my comments here.)

But, as I am NOT one of the judges. It does not matter what I think. In deed, the only thing that matters, is what do You think?

What do you "imagine", for the costume of the Greatest (and Hottest) Super-Heroine ever to grace the pages of a comic book.

Submissions are due between August 1 and August 24.
(An official due-by time is TBA.)

Submission Guidelines.

Dallas, Texas - Fan Days Exhibitor News Released

The Comic Book Listings Blog:

Fan Days News Release:

Fan Days - Exhibitor Info

Fan Days
October 8-9, 2011

Attention Exhibitors,

We are happy to announce that the next Fan Days will be held at the new Irving Convention Center on October 8-9, 2011. Exhibitor reservations are
being taken now! If you have already made your reservations, thanks!

To better make room for and accommodate our customers (we had a record 11,400 at the last Dallas Comic Con), the fire marshal has suggested a reduction in our number of tables that we can set in the main exhibit hall. Our isle sizes were increased from 9' to 15' reducing the number of our island blocks of tables from 18 to 16 equaling 40 less tables. So, with fewer tables, we are now more than 70% sold out. Dont delay...

Exhibit Space at the Irving Center is sold by 8'
tables. If you pay for your space in advance, one exhibit space is only $225.00 (price good through 9/15/2011) and includes an 8' table and two chairs. The approx square footage of this spot is 10'(wide) by 8' (deep) or 80sqft. After 9/15, space goes up to $250.00, still a bargain compared to other events!

Small Press tables are also available online!

Don't delay, reserve yours today here (http://www.officialpix.com/estore/proddetail.asp?prod=Fan-Days-Exhibit-Space) before they are all gone!

Exhibitor Setup: Friday 2pm-7pm, Saturday at 8:30am-10:00am, Sunday 10:30am-11:00am.

Thanks for choosing Fan Days and the Dallas Comic Con! For more information on the show, a map to the facility, our exhibitor hotel (with a $74.00 rate while rooms last), special guests and artists, and more, click here (http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/fandays.html).

Sincerely,

Ben Stevens
