ComicBookListings:

X-MEN #1 CGC 5.5 WHITE PAGES 1: X-Men, Magneto, Prof. X

Seller's Description:

THE HOLY X-GRAIL!

This is my all-time favorite comic. It's one of the most sought-after Marvel issues from the 1960s and it contains more first appearances than any other Silver Age comic. Sure, you get the famous combination of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, but look at all of these first appearances in the CGC 5.5 graded copy of X-Men 1:

1st: Cyclops
1st: Marvel Girl
1st: Beast
1st: Angel
1st: Iceman
1st: Professor X; Charles Xavier
1st: Magneto

Think of the other first issue launches for Marvel ... did you get a major super-villain in any of them? No way ... not on the caliber of Magneto.

Did I mention this issue has WHITE PAGES and the CGC case is in pristine condition? This is a sweet comic.

Marvel Superheroes Could Not Stop Marvel Entertainments Stock Drop!

ComicBookListings:

Marvel Superheroes Could Not Stop Marvel Entertainment's Stock Drop!

From the Comic Book Listings news room- Reports are coming in from all over now of Marvel Entertainment's (MVL) second quarter failure to perform as analyst expected.

But wait a minute!
Does that mean Marvel Superheroes Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk have failed us with lower than expected earnings from the comic book giant's two Blockbuster movie releases?

Does that mean you should sell your Marvel Entertainment stock?

Not so fast!

As Julia Boorstin, a CNBC reporter, writes-

Marvel Entertainment's (MVL) second quarter came in solid, posting a 60 percent increase in net income, and raising its full-year forecast on the boffo performance of Iron Man and The Hulk.

But its stock took a superhero-sized tumble, plummeting over 13 percent and ending the day down 11.5 percent. The problem? Marvel raised its full-year earnings outlook to between $1.55 per share and $1.75 per share on $450 million to $480 million in revenues. But those increases weren't as high as Wall Street analysts were expecting, and that's what caused the stock to dip. Read More.

So as you can see, it Wasn't the fault of our most favored superheroes. But rather the fault of some overly anxious stock analyst who couldn't see anything but dollar signs with no warning signs.

In deed, Tim Beyers of The Motley Fool is now apologizing for his "misunderstanding", saying;
I blew it when I wrote in June that Marvel Entertainment (NYSE: MVL) would have to raise its guidance by at least $0.40 per share for 2008; I was off by half. Wall Street's analysts -- who projected at least $1.96 in full-year 2008 profit rather than the $1.55 to $1.75 Marvel now expects -- were off even more.

What we had all hoped is that Marvel's 2006 illustrative film profit model was perfectly accurate and that, with a $300 million megahit in Iron Man, the studio would generate at least $51 million in operating profit this year, rather than the $5.2 million to $14.4 million Marvel is now estimating.

But we should have known better. Marvel Vice Chairman Peter Cuneo warned us all during the first-quarter conference call in May. ...Read "Misunderstanding Marvel".

Yeah, well Tim. You should have known better. I mean your the expert. But then on the other hand, those of us who collect comic books, particularly Marvel Superhero comic books, and Especially Spiderman, Iron Man, Hulk, and Fantasic Four fans; know full well that our comic book heroes won't leave us high and dry. And besides, The Avengers have yet to make their appearence on the silver screen, and heaven help DC Comics when Thor, the God of Thunder arrives.

All in all therefore, it is the opinion of The Comic Book Listings Blog (who is in no way qualified to give an opinion), that if you own Marvel Entertainment stock, Keep it! And if you don't own any, Get some! Because as I do not go by the numbers, but rather by Popularity. I can tell you that our most favored Marvel Super Hero (Marvel Comics), is going no where but UP!!!

Update: Not sure why these Marvel Avengers have not yet sold but, I just checked and in deed they have not! Have not talked with the seller to see what kind of inquiries they may have had, but, I figure, after being listed on craigslist for over a month now, the seller "should be" about ready to deal. At any rate, they would make a great addition to someone's collection.

Live Web Event Marks Release of Selznick's Novel- Brave Men Run

ComicBookListings: posted by request;

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 10, 2008

Live Web Event Marks Release of Selznick's Novel "Brave Men Run"

On Sunday, July 13, 2008, author and podcaster Matthew Wayne Selznick will celebrate the release of his book, "Brave Men Run - A Novel of the Sovereign Era" with a groundbreaking all-day live web video event. Dubbed "Sovereign Summer Sunday," the daylong "web-a-thon" has Selznick appearing every hour on the hour, starting at 10:00 AM Eastern / 7:00 AM Pacific time, in a video chat room. He will interact with fans and read original short stories set in the same universe as his book and written by seven prominent authors in the new media space.

"I'm looking to take over the bestseller charts on Amazon.com with the release of 'Brave Men Run,'" Selznick said, "so I'm asking everyone interested in the book to purchase it from Amazon on the same day, July 13."

Concentrated sales on the same day cause a book to quickly rank high on the Amazon.com bestseller charts.

During the event, Selznick will provide updates on the book's success and progress, chat with fans in the embedded chat room, and perform live readings of new short stories set in the "Sovereign Era" universe of "Brave Men Run" written by popular podcasting authors, including J.C. Hutchins ("7th Son"), Mur Lafferty ("Playing for Keeps"), Matt Wallace ("The Failed Cities Monologues"), Nathan Lowell ("Double Share"), P.G. Holyfield ("Murder at Avedon Hill"), J.R. Blackwell and Jared Axelrod.

Selznick made new media history once before with "Brave Men Run" in 2005, when the book became the first novel to be simultaneously released as a print-on-demand paperback, an e-book in five formats with no digital rights management restrictions, and a free podcast audiobook. The podcast edition of the book enjoys a world-wide audience in the thousands.

"My goal is to raise awareness for publisher Swarm Press, 'Brave Men Run,' and most of all, attention for the audience. Increasingly in this information age, the audience is who decides what sells, what gets heard and what gets seen," said Selznick. "If 'Brave Men Run' makes it to the top of the Amazon.com bestseller charts on Sunday, July 13, 2008, it will mark a turning point in how creative media is distributed and marketed."

The entire live video event can be viewed at http://www.bravemenrun.com or http://www.mattselznick.com on July 13, 2008.

Marvel Comics Stock Scandal Continues!

ComicBookListings:

Marvel Comics Stock Scandal Continues!
in a Blood Feeding Frenzy over Marvel Entertainment stock

If you are a patriot of the Comic Book Listings blog, then you already know that aside from posting the very Best in comic book listings on the internet -or at least that we can find-, so too we keep you abreast of the latest comic book news, reviews, movies, and comic book Publisher stock reports.

Like Marvel Entertainment (NYSE: MVL). Recently listed on the S&P 400, the story doesn't end there as Hillary Clinton also got involved with this stock so that, *things are a little bit shady now.

Lawsuits, lawsuits, lawsuits. Where to begin? How about, with a smartmoney/barrons report by Bill Alpert stating:

"Lawsuits against Marvel, Lee and Bill and Hillary are pressing Paul's claims that a dot-com he started with Stan Lee in 1998 was undone by the actions of the former president, short-sellers and Stan Lee himself. In a Manhattan federal district court, some of Paul's associates argue that the bankrupt dot-com, Stan Lee Media, still owns rights to Marvel characters like Spider-Man and The X-Men. On behalf of the former dot-com, they want half the profits that Marvel is piling up, now that it's producing its own films like the smash hit Iron Man and the just-opened The Incredible Hulk."

The report goes on to say;

"The Clintons, Marvel and 85-year-old Stan Lee all vehemently reject Paul's claims and duly note his many felony convictions. He's got the electronic bracelet because he's awaiting sentencing for his manipulation of shares of Stan Lee Media. Paul's criminal record opens the door to impeachment of anything he alleges. But that doesn't mean he's wrong about everything. The securities filings for Marvel and Stan Lee Media contain seemingly contradictory assignments by Stan Lee of his rights in the superhero characters he helped create in the 1960s. And Lee's assertions in a 2002 lawsuit against Marvel don't appear to track with what he says now."

"So even if the folks pressing Peter Paul's claims aren't likely to win half of Marvel's profits, they've raised factual questions about Marvel's title to its billion-dollar character franchises." [Read Full Story -The Rage Offstage at Marvel- at Smartmoney.com]

Now enter, The Motley Fool!
The Motley Fool is a stock publication that I have been reading for a Very long time.

In the Fool's report -Is Marvel a Villain?- Tim Beyers writes;

"If a recent Barron's article is correct, Marvel Entertainment could owe millions to a bankrupt company originally co-founded by Spider-Man creator Stan Lee."

"Trouble is, the Barron's article, written by Bill Alpert -- one of my favorites for his normally spot-on detective work -- assumes too much and misses pertinent facts about a key player in the case."

The "Key" player Tim Beyers is talking about, is James Nesfield.

Nesfield, as Tim writes, is; "known best as a whistleblower in the mutual fund market-timing scandal", and is "leading the lawsuit against Marvel on behalf of himself and other SLM shareholders, including convicted felon Peter Paul".

Interestingly, this was all reported to The Comic Book Listings Blog "Here", by an anonymous commentor on July 2nd a day after I posted this article; "Hillary Clinton involved in Marvel Comics Stock Scandal!"

Unfortunately "anonymous' didn't leave any links to articles backing up his claims so that there was nothing I could do at the time. Now however, since the Motley Fool report. I can tell you that Hillary Clinton is but One of the many flies at the Marvel picnic. A little shark, in a Blood Feeding Frenzy over Marvel Entertainment stock.

You can read the full story by Tim Beyers of The Motley Fool "HERE"! (as a side note, rather than as a recommendation. I will tell you that I have never received a bad stock recommendation from the Motley Fool. Though truth be known, while I keep up with "some" stocks, I Do Not own Any stocks. Nevertheless, for a Beginning investor, The Motley Fool is an excellent place to start.)

And you can read the Barron's / Smartmoney article "HERE"!

But in the end, though the END is Far from over. What all of this tells me is that while The Comic Book Listings Blog does NOT own any Marvel Entertainment stock, ...maybe we should!

Internet's Hottest Authors and Swarm Press Join Forces to in New Wave of Comic Book-Inspired Fiction!

ComicBookListings: Posted by Request;

WWW.SWARMPRESS.COM

For Immediate Release

Internet's Hottest Authors and Swarm Press Join Forces to in New Wave of Comic Book-Inspired Fiction!

Publisher Swarm Press is proud to announce the release of comic book-inspired fiction from writers, podcasters and bloggers Matthew Wayne Selznick, Mur Lafferty and Van Allen Plexico. This new "four-color fiction" combines super-heroic action and real-world drama for an addictively entertaining formula that's sure to leave readers hungry for more.

Playing for Keeps by Mur Lafferty.

Welcome to Seventh City, the birthplace of super powers. The First Wave heroes are jerks, but they have the best gifts: flight, super strength, telepathy, genius, fire. The Third Wavers, like bar-owner Keepsie Branson and her friends, are stuck with the leftovers: the ability to instantly make someone sober, the power to smell the past, absolute control… over elevators. They just aren't powerful enough to make a difference… at least that's what they've always been told. But when the villain Doodad slips Keepsie a mysterious metal sphere, the Third Wavers become caught in the middle of a battle between egotistical heroes and manipulative villains.

Mur Lafferty is an American podcaster and writer based in Durham, North Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a degree in English. Her nonfiction work has appeared at www.SuicideGirls.com, as well as in the magazines Knights of the Dinner Table, PC Gamer, Computer Games, Scrye, and SciFi Magazine. Her short fiction has appeared in Hub, Escape Pod, and Scrybe. She was, until July, 2007, the host and co-editor of Pseudopod, and is currently the host and creator of the podcasts Geek Fu Action Grip and I Should be Writing. Visit Mur at www.MurVerse.com.

Sentinels: When Strikes the Warlord by Van Allen Plexico.

The power-mad Warlord stands poised to conquer--or destroy!--the universe itself. Can anyone stand in his way? Enter the Sentinels: College student Lyn Li, brilliant inventor and smart-alec Esro Brachis, beloved hero Ultraa, flamboyant showman Damon Sinclair and mysterious alien powerhouse Vanadium. When at last they all clash atop the Warlord's floating city, can the world itself survive?

Van Allen Plexico is a Political Science professor and the founder of www.AvengersAssemble.net, a website devoted to Marvel Comics' The Avengers. The editor of The Avengers commentary book ASSEMBLED!, he is the author of numerous science fiction novels, stories and nonfiction articles published by Swarm Press, White Rocket Books, Adamant Entertainment, Airship 27, www.RevolutionSF.com and many others. Visit Van at www.Plexico.net

Brave Men Run by Matthew Wayne Selznick.

Born different, unsure of his origins, Nate Charters is an outcast at Abbeque Valley High School, a self-proclaimed "boy freak" with few friends and low self-esteem. When the Sovereign Era dramatically dawns, Nate finds himself in a quest to discover the truth: is he more than he seems - a misfit in a miraculous and powerful new minority - or something else entirely?

Matthew Wayne Selznick is an author, podcaster, musician and noted authority on podcasting, new media, neo-patronage and the new Internet merit economy. Brave Men Run, his first novel, is notable for having been initially released simultaneously as a paperback, DRM-free e-book, and free podcast. Visit Matthew at www.MattSelznick.com.

According to Swarm Press founder Jacob Kier, it was the combination of the authors' backgrounds in social media and the quality of their work that brought them to the attention of Swarm.

"My methodology for acquiring new material to publish has always been to not only look at works that are handed to us, but also actively seek out quality books that have been produced independently," said Kier. "Adding Lafferty, Selznick and Plexico's books to our stable was a no-brainer: not only do they bring captivating, high-quality tales with them, but they each have a powerful social media presence and dedicated followers who will help Swarm to quickly build up its community of fans."

Sentinels author Plexico said that the release of books like his is another sign of the way the internet has changed traditional publishing.

"Publishing used to be like network TV: You had very limited choices from a handful of big, powerful content providers. Today, publishing has become more like cable or satellite TV: You have a vast, diverse multitude of choices, with "narrowcasting" replacing "broadcasting" and something being offered to suit nearly everybody," said Plexico. "I doubt many hidebound, monolithic old-school publishers would have given my Sentinels novels the time of day. Swarm Press grabbed them up because Swarm understands there's a certain audience out there that will absolutely love them. They put the quality of the material and the wants of their readers ahead of everything else. They know what the fans want and they deliver it, time after time-- and I am glad to be a part of that."

All of these titles are available for review by request, and interviews with Lafferty, Plexico and Selznick – together or separate – can be scheduled for your publication. Contact publicist Matt Staggs at mattormeg@gmail.com today.

Marvel Comics Upgraded on NY Stock Exchange!

ComicBookListings:

Marvel Comics Upgraded on NY Stock Exchange!

You may remember a story published by The Comic Book Listings Blog on June 2, 2008 about "Marvel Entertainment" replacing "Commerce Group" in the S&Ps mid-cap 400 index.

(for those of you who may not keep up with the Stock Market, or even with the business end of Marvel Entertainment; this was a Very Big deal for Marvel Comics, collectors, and movie goers alike.)

Well Today, according to "Forbes.com"- RBC Capital Markets analyst David Bank, upgraded the Marvel Entertainment (MVL), from "Sector Perform", to "Outperform", predicting steady gains for the stock following its summer blockbuster "The Incredible Hulk", and the stock rose $1.77, or 5.3 percent, to $34.91 in afternoon trading.

What does that mean? Well first it means that Marvel Entertainment "stocks" have become just as collectible as their Comic Books! Secondly, it means you are not going to make that kind of interest on your money in the bank. Especially not in one afternoon. Still, Comic Book Listings suggest that before you invest even one nickel into Marvel Entertainment stock, that you consult and seek the advice of professionals, and that you recognize that Comic Book Listings is Not in anyway suggesting that you buy this stock. (...Yeah I am! But only as a Collector might buy a comic book to add to their collection as I think it would be pretty Cool to own a piece of Marvel Comics, don't you? (Just Don't Come to Me if the stock crashes!)

Bank boosted his price target to $43 from $37, implying he expects shares to gain nearly 30 percent over Monday's close of $33.16.

Auction- Complete Run of Batman Detective Comics # 600 - 700

ComicBookListings: Auction News- newly listed on ebay;

Item Description:

A Complete Run of Batman Detective Comics from issue# 600 - 700

Seller's Description:

COMPLETE RUN LOT BATMAN DETECTIVE COMICS 600-700

This lot of books is for a complete run, NO MISSING ISSUES, of Batman's Detective Comics from 600-700. You'll have the pleasure of reading fantastic stories going back to 1989. 8 years of comics in one shot!

I've checked and rechecked each book; every comic in this lot is an investment grade comic (Fine or better). If you have purchased large lots off of ebay before you know you'll get a few rough ones in a lot. Not so here. Every book is Fine or better. This is a great place to start a collection from or enhance an already existing collection to fill in missing holes.

The books in the collection usually have been read once and bagged, sometimes less, sometimes more. Each issue will be individually bagged and boarded.

I am not a dealer or a certified grader but have been collecting comics as a hobby for over 25 years. I have been a member of Ebay for over 10 years with 100% positive feedback. As mentioned before, I've gone through every book and graded each: ... ...

... ... If you require additional pictures please go ahead and request. If you would like specific information and details on why a certain comic was graded, please feel free to ask. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I will include the following Detective issues: 596,597,598,599. That will give you all the issues for 1989! And 700 is included as well. So you’ll be getting Detective 596 to 700!!! You'll be getting over 100 comics!

The pictures you see are of the actual books.

This will be coming from a smoke free and pet free home.

I will be listing more Batman books over time, come back and thanks for looking!

Reserve Not Met!

CBL Note: Interesting! Of course the Movie hasn't come out yet but, I would have thought this collection of Batman to have sold and yet, it didn't even meet the reserve. I wonder why? If you got any ideas why they did not sell, Please post a comment as I do not want to post any Comic Books for sale (or auction), that no one is going to be interested in.
