Avengers No.1 - Beautiful Marvel Silver Age Comic at auction

The Comic Book Listings Blog: I Found this Beautiful Marvel Silver Age Comic "The Avengers No.1" at auction on ebay and just Had to blog it.

Seller says it has White Pages, and if the pic is of the actual comic, it has one of the Brightest covers I have ever seen.

Seller's Description: (Partial)

This listing is for an Avengers #1 in VFN- to VFN condition with white pages and the brightest cover colors I've ever seen on this issue due to incredibly preserved paper quality.

The comic is glossy, clean, complete, and has no tape, repairs, or restoration of any kind.

THE BEST & ONLY TOTAL PURCHASE PROTECTION, RAW COMIC RESTORATION GUARANTEE ON EBAY: If this comic is submitted to CGC or PGX and is returned either restored, repaired, trimmed, or qualified (a purple or green label), a full refund of auction price plus postage, the grading fee, and all postage incurred to send to and from grading, plus the postage to send it back for a refund will be reimbursed upon return to me.

PLEASE NOTE:
This comic is numerically graded by me using the published Overstreet guidelines. The grade assessed is not a CGC grade, a guarantee or implication of CGC grade. It is my opinion of what the comic should grade at CGC, but not a guarantee of what it will grade.

A specific numerical CGC grade cannot be guaranteed because CGC themselves do not guarantee grades, and there are no published CGC grading guidelines.

This is made evident by the thousands upon thousands of CGC graded comics that have graded differently when resubmitted a second time, one extreme case being a comic that once CGC Universal graded 4.0 eventually being given a 9.0 Universal grade by CGC, the same company that graded it 4.0 in the past!

What exactly does CGC guarantee?

I quote from the CGC label itself: "CGC guarantees this comic book to be genuine and be inspected by a minimum of three graders. The assigned grade represents our opinion, as grading is subjective."

As my regular buyers well know, on a whole, my comics do very well at CGC. Some grade slightly higher than the grades I list them at, an equal number grade slightly lower, and the majority grade the same, most notably of late an AS #129 that I listed at NM/MT that was graded 9.8 by CGC, an AS #9 I listed as NM/NM+ (meaning a high end 9.4, but not quite a solid 9.6) that was CGC graded 9.4, an AS #37 that I Iisted as 9.2, I was given a negative on by the buyer for "overgrading", yet 2 months later was graded CGC 9.4 for the second chance buyer, and many, many others.

***Also, recently a restored raw AF 15 auctioned at $16,950 that graded CGC 9.4 (sl) for the buyer!***

In other words, there is an averaging out when it comes to the subjective art of grading, even among the best.

Google Adsense DART Tracking Cookie!

The Comic Book Listings Blog:

Google Adsense
DoubleClick DART Tracking Cookie!

Google Adsense has changed it's Privicy Policy. Now, anytime your click on a site that sponsors Google Adsense advertising, a Doubleclick Tracking Cookie is installed on your computer to Track your viewing and buying habits. (Note: if you have ever visited YouTube.com for instance, you already have this cookie installed.) In theory, or at least, the excuse that is used. Is that in tracking your viewing and buying habits, Google will better be able to deliver Ads to the site you are visiting. In the past, the Ads were "Site Relevant". Meaning, if you were visiting a site like ComicBookListings, then the Ads that would be displayed on that site would be relevant to Comics, Comic Books, and of course, Comic Books for sale.

And in deed The Comic Book Listings Blog was designed for just such advertising as our whole purpose is to deliver the Best Comic Book buying deals on the internet.

Now however, because Google Adsense has elected to make use of the DoubleClick DART Tracking Cookie, you may no longer see ads relevant to Comics or "Comic Book Shopping", but Ads that reflect your "normal" interest and buying habits. That's because the DoubleClick DART Tracking Cookie will Track your every move on the internet to build a profile of your interest, surfing, and shopping habits.

This is a DISASTER for sites like ComicBookListings. And even for you, the consumer, as you are to be Profiled, and Pigeon Holed into a Limited range of advertising that takes into account Only where you have been, and not where you are. Simply put, now when you visit ComicBookListings, you may be served Ads more relevant to Entertainment, Cooking, Sexually Oriented, or Hollywood Gossip Sites, (if those are the type of sites you "normally" visit); Or, if you share your computer with your family, Fashion Ads, Sports Ads, Gender-oriented Advertising, Advertising for Children, and God knows what all they will serve up on a site like ComicBookListings that has Nothing to do with those things. And all because "they think" that they predict what you want, when in fact, all they are doing is Limiting your Choices.

Luckily, or maybe i should say, "Graciously". Google/DoubleClick does give you the option to "OPT-OUT" of the DoubleClick DART Cookie. However, the Opting-Out only changes the DART Tracking Cookie after, it has already been Installed on your computer. Which means, that should you ever Delete the cookie, Doubleclick will install a New DART Tracking cookie that will not have the "OPT-OUT" value added to it. Meaning, you will have to once again return to DoubleClick to OPT-OUT all over again. Google does however, offer a "OPT-OUT PLUGIN", but, and I don't know about you, but I've got enough plugins on my computer. And besides, this plugin insures the Permanent installment of the DART Tracking cookie which, i don't think i like that idea.

Therefore, and in my opinion.
It would be better to BLOCK the DoubleClick DART Tracking Cookie altogether by;
  • * If you are using Internet Explorer 6.0, go to the Tools menu, then to Internet Options, then to the Privacy tab. This version of Internet Explorer is the first to use P3P to distinguish between types of cookies. P3P uses standardized privacy statements made by the cookie issuer to manage your acceptance of cookies. Under the “Privacy” tab, click on the “Advanced” button. Select “Override automatic cookie handling” and choose whether you want to accept, block or be prompted for “First-party” and “Third-party Cookies.” If you want to block all cookies coming from DoubleClick’s doubleclick.net domain, go to the “Web Sites” section under the “Privacy” tab and click the “Edit” button. In the “Address of Web site” field, enter “doubleclick.net,” select “Block,” click OK (menu will disappear); click OK again and you will be back to the browser.
  • * If you are using Netscape 6.0+, go to “Edit” in the menu bar, click on “Preferences,” click on “Advanced,” and select the “Cookies” field. Now check either the box that says, “Warn me before accepting a cookie” or “Disable cookies.” Click on “OK.” Now go to your “Start” button, click on “Find,” click on “Files and Folders,” type “cookies.txt” into the search box that appears, and click “Find Now.” When the search results appear, drag all files listed, into the “Recycle Bin.” Now shut down and restart your Netscape. Depending on your earlier choice you will either be prompted by new cookie sets or no cookies will be set or received.
  • * If you are using Mozilla or Safari, please go to their websites to find out how to disable cookies in those programs. (Note: Firefox makes cookie handling EASY!)

6000 Comic Books for $325 + Buyer at $35.00 per Long Box

The Comic Book Listings Blog:
Found 6000 Comic Books For Sale
on craigslist

6000 (Six Thousand) Comic Books For Sale! And all for only $325.00! (That's $16.25 per Long Box.) Unfortunately the seller did not provide any pictures but then, you know what Twenty Long Boxes of comic books looks like. And besides, he does give a pretty good description so without further a due..

OH! I almost forgot! As a "Special Bonus Listing" to this post, I have included another "Separate" listing that I found on craigslist, from a collector who wants to buy "mass quantities of comic books" for $35.00 per Long Box.

Of course, I cannot tell but that, since Both listings are posted on the Chicago craigslist. They may in fact be from the same person. Nevertheless, if you can buy for $16.25 a box, and Sell for $35 in a quick turn around. That's $375 profit for your time and effort to find out if it is the same person or not. However, even if these two Ads are Not from the same person, and as deals almost never work out like you want them to. The buyer may only buy a portion of the 6000 comic books that are up for sale. Nevertheless, and again, since both are located in the Chicago, Illinois area; it might be worth checking into especially if, You are a Chicago resident yourself.

Having said all that, and of course that; The ComicBookListings Blog is Not in any way associated, nor affiliated with any sellers, manufacturers, buyers nor with any other entities or agents of this (or these) products. We receive no payments, commissions, reimbursements, or compensation for the display or sale of this (or these) items. They are displayed here, simply as listing News, so Enjoy! And of course, Buyer Beware!

.

Seller's Description:
Up for sale are 20 long boxes of comic books, that means about 6000 comics (most likely more). Comics are from the mid 1980s to the early 2000s. For the most part the comics are in VF-NM condition. There are few that are in lesser grades. These are not all water damaged or coverless comics. Some are bagged, some bagged and boarded some are loose. Some but not extensive duplication. No finding a box with 50 copies of 6 different books in it.

Will not lie and say these are all great comics, there are some Marvel and DC mostly second tier titles and lots of Image, Valiant, Malibu and Dark Horse. There are no Disney or Archie Comics. There are also some Wizard magazines thrown in. For the most part these are 2nd tier titles. There are NOT any real valauble comics - they're being sold for less than a dime each.

Price on them all is $325, less than $18 a long box! Be advised this is more than many people can fit in their cars.

These comics are the ones you might find in an antique mall for $3.oo each or for sale at a flea markets for $1 each or at a comic book convention for 50c or a quarter each. So if you are looking for things to sell at one of these type of venues this may be the deal for you.

Sometimes I will also buy older books but I will not pay as much for those. Comics from the 1980s and 1990s I will only pay $10 per long box. I am not interested in small quantities of comics - small means you can carry all of them at one time. Tell me how many you want ot get rid of!

craigslist Ad: Arlington,Texas "JMV Comic Book Show" Sunday June 21,2009 - $2 (Holiday Inn - NE,Arlington,Texas)

---

UPDATE: Well the show is over. But luckily I was able to attend. Lucky, as the over-all attendance was somewhat small, which made the dealers all too happy to cut some really great deals.

Of course, I did get there kinda early (noon). And I left kinda early (1:00pm). So I really can't tell you how big of crowd showed up for the 4:30 drawing. But after seeing what I saw, you can bet that i will be attending the next JMV Comic Book Show. In fact, I may even get me a table for the next event so that I can give you twitter updates, and do a much better job of reporting on the event than what I have here. Though I can report that the promoter (JVM) broke down on the way to the event, so that the comic book show wound up being Free! And nevertheless, that I had a great time and met a lot of really cool collectors and dealers.

Watch for future show dates right here on The Comic Book Listings Blog, and of course, at JMV Entertainment.

Note: If you were a dealer at the JVM show, please let me know as I will be happy to post your comics for sale. Or, of course. Just click the "Post Your Listings" link in the sidebar to post by email. Or click here to find out "How To Post Your Comic Books For Sale".

Has Boobs, Reads Comics, Needs Artist!

Has Boobs, Reads Comics: Calling all artists!

The Comic Book Listings Blog:

Has Boobs, Reads Comics, Needs Artist!

Between the hours of 12am and 5am, Jill Pantozzi, 26, is a DJ for the radio station WJLK (The Point). She grew up around Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who and continues to love them even today. She's a fanatic for anything that involves girls kicking butt (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xena, La Femme Nikita, Alias, The Fifth Element), and she even has a tattoo from The Fifth Element though, she has not told me "where???". (But that's ok as she really doesn't know who i am anyway. And besides, it's not her tattoo i'm here to tell you about. In deed you had better read plum down to the bottom of this post as otherwise you might miss, a Grand event.)

At any rate, in an email i recieved the other day from Matt B. of the Comic Blog Elite, i learned that
Jill has a problem. Disabled by Muscular Dystrophy, she is confined to a "scooter". But that's not her problem. In deed Jill turned her scooter into a Rolling Bill Board when she visited the New York comic con where she discovered, her true handicap. Jill writes;

"At the New York Comic Con this year I made a sign last minute to stick on my scooter to advertise the blog. It read "Has Boobs, Reads Comics TheNerdyBird.com" and it was completely lame. However it did get me a lot of attention, not to mention allow my internet buddies to spot me in the crowds (like the scooter is easy to miss). I've decided I want something better for San Diego Comic Con and I want YOUR help because frankly, I draw like an 8 year old."

Now folks, That's just plain Sad!
And talk about a "Bad Hair Day".

(Jill, if you're reading this, then girl, I'm Sorry!)

But not to worry as our fearless heroine
in true Xena - The Warrior Princess style, has devised a plan.

And better yet, A CONTEST!!!

Jill writes;
"I'd like for you to design me a sign I can put on my scooter at SDCC. Here are my requirements:
*Sign must read "Has Boobs, Reads Comics" (quotes included)

*Sign must read TheNerdyBird.com

*Sign must have the dimensions of an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper

Pretty much everything else is open to interpretation. The sign can be horizontal or vertical. You can stick with just those two phrases and make them pop or you can add art/images along with it. Color designs are appreciated. Feel free to use any medium you like whether it's straight up art, comic art, photography, computer graphics, etc. You can draw an actual "Nerdy Bird" or a depiction of myself if you want, above all, BE CREATIVE!"

For Full details visit Jill's blog site here:
http://www.thenerdybird.com/2009/06/calling-all-artists.html

The deadline is July 3, 2009,
so you've got exactly one month to promote or participate.

Well there you have it folks.
Has Boobs, Reads Comics, Needs Artist!
A great opportunity to have Your Artwork displayed at the 2009 SDCC. So break out those art programs and Start Designing and Drawing!

(NOTE: I draw like Jill draws (worse), so you won't have to worry about any competition from me.)

Special Thanks to Matt B of the CBE for notifiying The Comic Book Listings Blog of The Nerdy Bird's contest in an email, of which, certain parts were used in this post.

Jill is an active member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association ( see also: http://www.thenerdybird.com/search/label/mda), and anything that brings attention to her scooter will also help raise awareness for a noble cause -- so keep that in mind and Spread the Word about her Contest!

Iron Man Saves New York Fashion Week

The Comic Book Listings Blog:

Iron Man Saves New York Fashion Week
or

Mary Jane Watson vs. Barbie?

On Aug. 26, Marvel Comics will release the first issue of “Models Inc.", with stars Millicent Collins (a k a Millie the Model), Patsy Walker, also known as the super heroine Hellcat, and Mary Jane Watson (Spider-Man's girl friend).

Models Inc. promises to be a suspense filled murder mystery in which "Millicent" (which just happens to be Barbie's middle name; "Barbara Millicent Roberts"), is the prime suspect in the murder of a young set designer during New York Fashion Week.

Enter Tim Gunn who's popularity on Project Runway (a Peabody Award-winning American reality television series on Lifetime Television), led to his on TV show "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style", and apparently, to Marvel's idiotic ideal of Mr. Gunn jumping into Iron Man’s suit of armor to save a fashion exhibition from evildoers.

WHAT??? You heard me.
Tim Gunn, a fashion designer, dons the suit previously owned by Tony Stark, to save the girls from a New York Fashion Week Disaster.

At least, that's how i understand the plot as of now. I will of course update this post as details of this fiasco come in.

Think of it as “Charlie’s Angels” set in the fashion world", writes GEORGE GENE GUSTINES for The New York Times - FASHION & STYLE section. Of course I'm sure Marvel would prefer "Marvel's Angels" but, is this just an attempt by Marvel to "Steal Away" some of the attention and "Big Buck$" Mattel's Barbie doll has generated during her 50th Anniversary Year?

Well, if it is, then it's a pretty lame attempt and not likely to gain so much as a backwards glance from the iconic Barbie doll. In deed "Barbie" has gained so much notoriety that, "Bloomingdales New York" signed a contract to celebrate Barbie's 50th Birthday Anniversary with an in Store display of One Whole floor devoted to the Barbie doll, and a Street Window display that, well, Mary Jane Watson would die for.

And lets not forget, there was a time when Marvel did publish a series of Barbie comic books. So who knows what Marvel is up to with this "she"nanigan. We can only hope that Tim Gunn gets Killed, and Tony Stark returns as The One and Only, Iron Man.
